It's a pleasure to present the Readers the new issue of "e-mentor". I would like to attract your attention to an article concerning open innovation - the development of open source in management. I also recommend a paper describing the results of eye tracking research dealing with readability of websites.

In the issue, we publish the record of discussion panel which was organized during a conference Values and procedures in academic work under the patronage of the State Accreditation Committee and the Foundation for Polish Science. Speakers who were exchanging their experience tried to answer a fundamental question whether procedures of academic institutions' activity are conducive to values of academic ethos.

The important part of current issue is also an analysis concerning motives of teachers' participation in lifelong learning which was preceded by identification of their needs. An attempt to find relation between seniority and the type of motivation has also been made.

Finally, I would like to inform that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is preparing amendments to the Bill on E-learning. The amendment is to eliminate most controversial decisions - differentiation of universities according to degree awarding powers at setting maximal percent of online lectures and special rights for organization of studies with the use of methods and techniques of distance education outside Europe. Nevertheless, the amendments proposed by the Ministry are not sufficient in comparison to needed modifications. Current shape of the Bill is not appropriate to the challenges which academic institutions must face in the area of distance education. The text of the proposed amendment, together with the opinion of Prof. Barbara Kudrycka - the Minister of Science and Higher Education, are published in the issue.
