It is a pleasure to welcome e-mentor readers after holidays. Since our last meeting in June, a lot of interesting things have happened in e-learning.

Latest months were especially turbulent for universities involved in projects co-financed with the European Social Fund which aimed at creating e-learning materials for subjects of a particular knowledge area. Many academies, often in consortia, made an attempt to realize that task in a given time of only a few months. Results of their efforts will be soon available for everybody.

An idea of financing e-learning with the European funds, which came from the Ministry of Education, is not the only sign that e-learning in Poland is maturing. Also, the legal regulations concerning overall rules of implementing e-learning methods in higher education system, which are being prepared, are worth mentioning. It is also high time to join forces and create common standards of best organization of e-learning processes and promotion of good practices. Those are the aims of a newly settled Association of Academic E-learning, about which we inform in e-mentor.

The issue contains many interesting articles and reviews. I recommend a paper presenting the influence of new technologies on changes in the American higher education system which we publish in E-learning worldwide section, an article about a knowledge-oriented company and a paper on development of artificial intelligence. The October issue begins, as always, with a feuilleton - this time dedicated to internet auctions in Poland.

Wishing you a nice and fruitful lecture of our first issue in the new academic year, I give you my best regards,
