I present with pleasure a new issue of e-mentor, welcoming you warmly after holiday time. I hope that our articles, reports from seminars and most recent information about publications, conferences and websites concerning e-learning, knowledge management, e-business, lifelong education and higher education will be as valuable for you as before.

I would like to draw your attention to an article Tuition, reforms and liberalisation of Polish higher education which indicates very important and current problems of higher education. I encourage readers to publish a polemic in e-mentor and share your views on the development of higher education, its future and conditions created by a new Bill on higher education. I hope that opinions of academics will influence executive acts of the Bill.

I also recommend two articles about e-learning and one from KM section. The first, written by R. Robert Gajewski, describes learning styles and their implementation in online learning. The second, by Vlad Wielbut from the School of Information, University of Michigan, analyses the role of e-learning in the contemporary world. In the first part, he mentions very enthusiastic initial predictions about using new technologies in didactics and their potential influence on university's development as long as building competitive advantage. Then, he tries to show that despite those predictions came true only in part e-learning plays a very important role in the process of learning, creating unique values which are often impossible to reach by higher education. And, last but not least, there is an article about measuring intellectual capital. The authors present one of methods of evaluating intellectual capital - IC Rating tool. Comprehensive description of this tool and methodology with comparison to other methods is an important advantage of this article.

During holidays many interesting events took place. Some of them are described in our magazine. I recommend reports from EDEN international conference in Helsinki and a seminiar concerning the new Bill on higher education organized by the Foundation for the Promotion and Accreditation of Economic Education.

It is also my pleasure to inform that e-mentor's circulation was increased from 1200 to 1500 issues. 300 additional copies will be distributed among representatives of high schools in order to popularise issues presented in the magazine among them. I would like to stress that online version of e-mentor was visited by over 215 000 people which confirms the strength of this medium.
