Effective system of detecting plagiarisms


The article presents authors' experience of detecting plagiarisms among students. They describe a program named Sherlock which has been used in Cracow University of Economics for two years already. Sherlock finds similarities between textual documents. It uses digital signatures to find similar pieces of text. Sherlock works on text files such as essays, computer source code files, and other assignments in digital form. The authors discuss the problem of plagiarism at universities and effects of using anti-plagiarism systems.
