In the era of the information and knowledge-based society, the complex areas of knowledge as well as using modern techniques and technology, become increasingly more important. In the development of economic sciences, but also in the very economic education, informatics-econometrics-statistical techniques and technologies will have a great influence on achieved results. Currently, informatics, combined with modern and more perfect econometric models and methods as well as with statistical tools, is a strong impulse for economic universities to develop. The present article describes the creation of the Department of Informatics and Electronic Economy of the Poznan University of Economics.
