Contemporary educational activities in India

India is a country where tradition of beginnings of civilization meets modernity. There are lots of illiterate people, especially among women, in marginalized groups and in rural areas, and - as a result of unequal socioeconomic planning - only technical and higher education has been developed by the government. At present, many educational activities at primary level supported by NGOs (UNICEF or the World Bank) are being implemented. The article describes the state of education and problems of implementing lifelong learning in India. Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU has also been presented.
