Workaholism and neurosis - personal conditions of addiction to work
Nowadays, workaholism becomes one of most dangerous social threats. Karoshi - a sudden death at work increased to about 10 000 people a year. Workaholics constitute about 5% of population which means that every 20thth employee is addicted to work.
It is considered that workaholism results mainly from outside social and cultural factors, but the author proves that it is also dependent on the type of personality with neurotic tendencies. Excessive working can act as a defensive mechanism which reduces fear and increases self-esteem and self-evaluation.
The article describes connections between workaholism and neurosis and underlines disadvantageous influence of addiction to work on a human and society.
