Netocration and education in the information society

The article is a review of two interesting books concerning the influence of new technologies and the internet on education, work, society and economy which has been lately published in Poland. The first, Netocration by Alexander Bard and Jan Söderqvist describes transformations which are being carried out under the influence of technology. The second, Development of educational services in the era of information society by Miroslawa Pluta-Olearnik deals with the role of higher education in the modern society.

Although both publications tackle a problem of education in the future, the authors present different views on the issue. A. Bard and J. Söderqvist suggest that formal education will no longer be adequate for people, being replaced by a net of small modules, precisely adapted to the needs of a student and access to specified information. M. Pluta-Olearnik believes that academic education, after reforms and adaptation of new technologies and lifelong learning, is able to give a satisfactory educational ground for young people who enter knowledge-based economy and global market.
